Background
Isom Ltd was formed in 1986.
At that time the core business was preparation of Technical Documentation
(comprising Operation, Maintenance and related manuals) for large
projects such as airports, hospitals and military facilities in
Saudi Arabia.
The work in the Middle East was
extended to cover similar projects in Bahrain and Turkey. Isom Ltd
has provided documentation for major German, French, Japanese and
Korean companies in this area. Following the Gulf War, political
factors made the Middle Eastern market more difficult. Although
still maintaining contact with our agents and former clients, efforts
were made to diversify into UK and European markets.
Subsequently, Isom Ltd has prepared
manuals for the new Macau International airport (the company's fourth
large contract with Siemens AG), UK water utilities, several smaller
projects (two more for Siemens AG) and is currently part way through
a long term documentation preparation/revision contract with the
British Ministry of Defence. Isom has just completed documentation
for the new International Airport at Gaza and has started a new
project for extensions at Dubai International Airport. A complete
list of Isom's projects, some of which are briefly described, is
listed in their Track Record.
Capabilities
Isom Ltd has experience in producing
documentation for a wide variety of subjects - ranging from a specialist
medical bed to systems installed at nuclear power stations. The
company has experience of most military or commercial client specifications,
e.g. AvP 70, NES 40, BS 4884, TP 30, DEF STAN 00-00. If no suitable
specification is available, it can develop one to meet the client's
requirements.
In addition to manuals and handbooks,
Isom Ltd is able to prepare Technical Reports and Proposals, Press
Articles (Technical), Wall charts and Microfiche, for more information
see Writing Services.
The company can also provide a consultancy
service for the preparation of documentation for prospective projects
and have extensive experience of managing technical
translation, including to and from the more exotic languages
such as Arabic.
Isom Ltd is able to prepare most
types of technical documentation completely in-house. Where litho
printing and/or special reprographic processes are specified, they
have good contacts with reputable, quality assured, local printing
companies. Isom's company quality system
is in accordance with ISO 9001. All documentation is prepared in
accordance with the approved quality procedures.
Personnel and Resources
Isom Ltd currently
operates with a core permanent staff of authors, illustrators, WP
operators and administrators. To cope with workloads above the capacity
of the permanent staff, additional technical authors and/or technical
illustrators are employed on an 'as necessary' contract basis; this
method of working is currently very common among technical publications
companies.
